Behold, I stand at the door…

October 31, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I had a revelation tonight while the sounds of sugar hyper children roamed the streets.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. Whoever hears my voice and will answer the door, I will come in and sup with him.”

As we Christians all well know, Satan knows the Bible forward and back. So, if we apply this rule to Halloween, when we open the door to ‘Trick-or-treaters’ we open the door to Satan.
Knock. Knock.
Trick or Treat.

Well, you may be giving a treat, while Satan is tricking you.

“Be on your guards. For the deceiver prowls around like a roaring lion, seaking whom he may devour.”

A day at the beach!

October 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

This weekend, we took an impromptu trip to Galveton. Seems like good timing, since it was the last warm weekend for a while…I hope.
Anyway, we spent the day at the beach. This was the kids first time to the beach…ever! They had a blast and Melody is the daringest of them all. Levi would have nothing to do with the deep water unless someone was holding him. He wouldn’t go in over his ankles!
The older boys had a great time out in the surf with Daddy. Daddy took a picture of the 5 of us sitting in the water. What fun!

Christians and Halloween

October 25, 2007 · 2 Comments

This is the time of year when I adore the changing of colors and weather. Today is a nice 75 degrees with a cool breeze.

But the thing I hate about this time of year is the attempt by every church to incorporate Jesus into Halloween Celebrations.
A local church has a sign that reads: Celebrate Jesus: Harvest Festival, October 31st

Well, I’m all for celebrating Jesus at Harvest Festival. Our family does it every year…on Thanksgiving Day!
If, as a Christian, I support and allow this demonic festival to bring joy to my children, I am a hypocrit.

Oh, now I see some of you fuming, just wait…it gets worse!

We do not dress up. We do not trick or treat. We do not give out candy to the neighborhood kids. We do not even attend the “Harvest Festival” at the local church.

Why?

Because Halloween is a celebration of the dead.
Christians celebrate Life.
How can the two coincide?
How can one claim to be a Christian and yet celebrate such a demonic, satanic day?

A friend once told me about a man she had met from Africa. He had been a witch doctor before becoming a Christian.
On his first trip to America, around Halloween time, he asked his American friend, “What on earth do you do to your children here in America? I have seen all these spirits in the spiritual realm when I was a witch doctor.”
He included every ‘cutsie’ costume as well.
Demonic forces will take on every shape and form to intice our children. We must guard them against such evil and teach them the truth about Halloween.

Absurd!

October 18, 2007 · Leave a Comment

“Do I think that religious exemptions have become the default? Absolutely,” said Dr. Paul Offit, head of infectious diseases at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia and one of the harshest critics of the anti-vaccine movement. He said the resistance to vaccines is “an irrational, fear-based decision.”

Irrational? Fear-Based?

Please. The sheer fact that we have been scared into vaccinating our children completely negates this doctors comment. For the full story go here.

Am I the only one?

October 17, 2007 · 6 Comments

Please tell me I am not the only mom who gets sick of her children.
Does anybody else ever feel like this?
It’s like being stuck in a dorm room with you worst enemy. Well…maybe not your worst enemy…but close enough if you don’t have any enemies.
I am so exhausted. I dread climbing the stairs unless I’m going to bed. I dread getting out of bed to have to instruct the children to do the same things I instructed them to do yesterday. Put your bowls in the sink. Turn off the tv. Do your school work. Do your school work. Sit on your bottom. Do your school work. Eat your lunch. Stop talking with your mouth full. Sit on your bottom. Finish your school work. Go play upstairs. Go upstairs. Play in the playroom! I’ll make your snack in a minute. I said in a minute! Go upstairs. Eat your snack. Sit on your bottom! Put your plate away. Do the dishes. Clean up the water you spilled on the floor when you were doing the dishes. Go play in the playroom. I said, “The playroom!”
Anyone else tired from just reading this? I’m tired of saying it, writing it, reading it, living it.

Oh, that I were my sister…the world traveler. Visiting another country as I type. Enjoying some time alone with her hubby.
Oh, that I were a ‘working mom’ with the hours away from her children and adult conversation.
Oh, that I weren’t pregnant with another child, adding to the anxiety of teaching and disciplining children everyday.

I sometimes fear for my sanity…really!
I sometimes fear I will hurt them…really!

But, I never have hurt them. I cannot leave them. I cannot escape them, I should say. They are constant. I’m not sure I like my kids all that much right now.

Does anyone else EVER feel this way? Or am I completely alone?

Reasons to Love God::

October 10, 2007 · 5 Comments

I love Autumn. I was born in Autumn.
When we lived in North East Texas, I got Autumn every year for my birthday. Not so much here in South East Texas, where pine trees prevail. Everything is green nearly year round. But that’s beside my point.
Here are a couple of beautiful Autumn photos emailed to me by a friend. Thought you would enjoy them as well.

Waaaayyy too much

October 5, 2007 · 1 Comment

I am spending way too much time on the computer every day. I’m thinking of just keeping it off during the weekdays. That’ll mean that if you email me, you’ll only get a response on the weekends! Yikes! How will you ever live without me?

KILLER BISCUITS WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER::

October 2, 2007 · 2 Comments

KILLER BISCUITS WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

(the actual AP headline)

Linda Burnett, 23, a resident of San Diego, was visiting her in-laws and while there went to a nearby supermarket to pick up some groceries. Several people noticed her sitting in her car with the windows rolled up and with her eyes closed, with both hands behind the back of her head.
One customer who had been at the store for a while became concerned and walked over to the car. He noticed that Linda’s eyes were now open, and she looked very strange. He asked her if she was okay, and Linda replied that she’d been shot in the back of the head, and had been holding her brains in for over an hour.
The man called the paramedics, who broke into the car because the doors were locked and Linda refused to remove
her hands from her head. When they finally got in, they found that Linda had a wad of bread dough on the back of her head.
A Pillsbury biscuit canister had exploded from the heat, making a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, and the wad of dough hit her in the back of her head. When she reached back to find out what it was, she felt the dough and thought it was her brains.
She initially passed out, but quickly recovered and tried to hold her brains in for over an hour until someone noticed and came to her aid.
Linda is a blonde, but I’m sure that is irrelevant.
