We finally got our math curriculum in after it was backordered for a couple of weeks. No big deal.
I’m already using it to help Ethan with his math problems, but we haven’t begun the curriculum yet.
We are going to start Ethan and Elijah on the Primer and do one lesson a day until we have finished-about 30 days. Of course, that will be spread out a bit. We’ll do five lessons per week, unless I decide to school them on Saturdays too. So, they should finish in 5 or 6 weeks.
Then, when we begin the new school year, I’ll start Melody on the Primer and Ethan and Elijah on Alpha.
I’m really excited to see them open up their minds with this curriculum.
Other than math, we will be returning to the Robinson Curriculum style for the rest of our home school. It just works better.
That means, I’ll have to move the TV. Not sure where it’s gonna go just yet, but it must be moved.
This is something to think about when we look at buying a house!

Apple Cider Vinegar
May 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment
I read here that apple cider vinegar can help control blood sugar, especially in those who have insulin resistance/pcos/pre-diabetes/etc.
This was an exciting discovery since I have been going bonkers with chocolate since I stopped taking my metformin. I knew it would be a problem, but it has been ridiculous. It’s like I never get full. I just want to keep eating, and I want to eat the things that make me gain weight. It’s crazy.
So, the article above explains all that ACV can do for my blood sugars. I’m excited to give it a try, especially since it is not harmful while I’m breastfeeding!

Interesting Neighbors!
May 26, 2008 · 3 Comments
So, a few months ago I was very excited about our new neighbors. They have a granddaughter Melody’s age that lives with them. Finally a friend for Melody.
Well, I noticed Melody coming home with some terrible behaviors, so she is not allowed over there alone anymore.
Yesterday they invited us for lunch (BBQ) after church and we accepted.
Lunch was delicious. Conversation was interesting.
It went something like this:
Grandma: I hope this Mars expedition proves that Mars is inhabitable. We have to find some place to live.
Me: Mars is too cold. We can’t live there. Earth is the only place we have to live.
Grandma: But doesn’t the Bible say the Earth will be destroyed with fire?
Me: Yep. It sure does.
Grandma: Well, we have to find some other place to live.
Me: Heaven or Hell. That’s it.
Grandma: Oh.

Lessons I hate to learn
May 20, 2008 · 1 Comment
As a parent, the lessons I hate to learn the most are the ones I am teaching my children.
For instance:
Saturday, Ronnie took all five kids on a walk while I was moving furniture in my office. They were having a pretty good walk, when a little puppy decided to come visit. It would not leave them and was very cute. My older boys petted and played with it.
Melody is scared to death of dogs. I’m not sure when this occurred. My parents had a miniature daschhound that died just before Christmas. Melody loved that dog. Then, they got a puppy. A puppy that jumps all over her and she screams bloody murder every time it gets near her.
Anyway, the little puppy that found them on their walk would not leave them alone. Melody got Levi all upset and as children so often do, Melody ran from the dog.
Ronnie called out, “Come to me, Melody!” But she ran violently around a neighbors well manicured lawn.
“Come to me, Melody!” Ronnie said, more forcefully this time. She continued to run around.
“COME TO ME, MELODY!” Ronnie shouted. She finally came and hung on his leg.
Ronnie called me from his cell phone to come get them, and Melody was still holding on for dear life when I got there. She cried about the dog all the way home.
How often do I run around frantically when I am afraid. How many times has God called out, “Come to ME, Leah!” and I have just ignored Him? The security I need and long for is right at my Father’s side, yet I ignore His calling. Oh! These are the lessons I hate to learn!

Mount Paperest
May 19, 2008 · 1 Comment
We started this tradition many years ago when the oldest boys were the only ones around. It all begins with a newspaper, or in tonight’s case a phone book.
You tear all the pages in to small ‘ticker tape’ size pieces and make a mound. Ethan dubbed this one Mount Paperest.
After you have assembled your mountain, you get big handfuls and throw them in the air.
This is the fun of having a big family and nothing to do with an old phone book.
Actually, I love this game. It lets the kids make a huge mess, and the cleanup is super easy!
You can’t really see the kids, but they are in there!

The Farmers Market

I announce to the kids that the Farmers Market has moved closer to us.
“We’ll be able to get those yummy red ripe strawberries!” I tell Melody.
Elijah chimes in, “I hope they don’t sell farmers!”

Remember this?
May 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment
1 Chronicles 4:10: “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.”
Remember that whole rush to pray the “Prayer of Jabez?”
Well, it occurred to me Sunday that God has granted my prayer. Abundantly.
enlarge my coast
I prayed this when I had 2 children. I now have 5. Five!
Wow! God really does enlarge us when we ask. If that is true, the He must be willing to keep His had upon us, guide us, keep us from evil, and keep us from grief.
I would have to say that over the past 5 years, God has fulfilled that prayer for me. Abundantly.
