Fireproof and the Presidential Debate

September 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

First, I think this is a good post on the debate: The Monica Memo

Fireproof

We went to the opening night of the new movie Fireproof. It was pretty good!
Despite a slow start, the movie gets pretty intense in some scenes. It was emotional, especially knowing couples who have challenges in their marriages.
For those of us with pretty steady marriages, it was a reminder to love one another even more, every day.
Thumbs up to Fireproof!

Heaven Help Us

Boy, when you are in a hole with no electricity for 12 days, the world just keeps going crazy without you!

Over the past two weeks that I have been unable to see any political news, I was surprised to see John McCain falling in the polls. What gives? Where is Sarah?

On the bail out of Fannie Mae and Feddie Mac, I believe our Maverick, John McCain was being himself and doing his job. He is famous for pulling both sides together and getting the deal done that the American people can be supportive of. Do I agree with bailing out these institutions? Absolutely not.

They should have to file bankruptcy like anyone else would. Now who is to say we wont bail out Wachovia that seems to be faultering, not to mention the big deal that went on while we slept between WaMu and JPMorgan Chase.

We are headed for a depression, I fear. Who do you want overseeing our nation in this time of economic disaster? Barack Obama with 2 years of Senate experience–of which he voted for your interest only 10% of the time, or do you want John McCain with 30 years of experience–of which he voted for your interest 100% of the time.

We deserve and demand a president that will listen to and serve the people of this great nation before it falters out of control!

Return of electricity.

This is how it went down:
I stayed the day at my parents house about 30 miles away. They got their power back on Saturday night.
So, we enjoyed the a/c, had pizza and watched their new big screen TV.
My cell phone was acting up, so I could only speak to Ronnie on mom and dad’s land line. That was loads of fun!
Ronnie and I met at The Black-eyed Pea for the third time this week for supper.
We raced home to see if our power was on, because one of Ronnie’s coworkers had gotten home and sent him a text message that her electricity was on, and she only lives about 5 miles from us.
As we drove further down the main street, our hopes faded. No lights in the subdivision across from ours, or the two before ours.
I pulled into our neighborhood. Street lights lit up the newest section in the front of our subdivision.
Then.
Darkness.

As I drove the winding road toward the back part of our subdivision–where we live–a glimmer of hope!

Street lights.

Then.

Porch lights!

I stopped behind two other cars at the stop sign.

We raced around the corner to find…

E-lec-tricity. EEE-lec-tricity. (Remember the song from School House Rock!!?)

Halelujah!

Close the windows.

Close the fridge.

Turn the a/c down. No, down some more!

From the stress, my neck and shoulders hurt so bad I had to sleep on a heating pad. Much better this morning.

The kids are all excited. Overly so. Hence the temporary name change.

I think we will take the next few days to get all sorted out, then resume school on Monday.

Ahhhh….sweet home air conditioning!

Y-IKE-S, Part 2–Warning: Stong Language Ahead

September 23, 2008 · 3 Comments

Still no power.

Ike, part 2 is overwhelming and even more stressful than the damn storm itself.

I’ve already had one nervous breakdown, and could be headed for another if our electricity doesn’t come on soon.

We were told that the least hit areas would be back on first.  That was a load of shit!  All the neighborhoods with huge trees have power.  We have little scrawny trees (new subdivision) and we still have no power!

I took it all instride the first couple of days, I’ll write more about that later.  The heat wave came through on Friday and it’s been hell since then.

Leah + stress + no power = bitchy, bitchy, bitchy!

I’ll write again when the power is back on.

Hurricane Ike is headed this way.

I’m going to get the heck out of Dodge tomorrow morning-with all five kids in tow. Please pray Ronnie’s employer will close his office tomorrow so he can make the journey with us. It’s a 3 1/2 hour trip to my sisters (where we’re going), and I don’t want to go alone with five children!

I’m not afraid of a hurricane, in fact, I’ve had second thoughts about dodging it. My parents, though, were both traumatized by hurricanes at a young age, and suggested, for the sake of the kids, that we leave. I know our house is strong enough, but the fact is, some people don’t understand that they should bring things in from outdoors. When those hurricane force winds come through, all their lawn furniture starts flying around like missiles.

Anyway, we’ll be headed out early tomorrow morning. Praying our home doesn’t lose electricity and ruin all our food!

Atom Smasher created by scientists to prove evolution.

Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous? Scientists creating a machine that is supposed to simulate how our universe started with a BIG BANG.

Are they even listening to themselves?

The Most Important Issues

September 9, 2008 · 1 Comment

To me, the most important issue when I look at a politician is his/her stand on Life.

Is the politician Pro-Life?

This is the most important factor in my decision when I vote. Life is God given. Only God should be able to take it away. This is the most important thing for me and my family!

Second, is the sanctity of marriage. One man. One woman. There should be no other definition. Period.

Third, I would put the economy and national security here. I believe they are tied together. Economics are going to be difficult in times of war, at home or abroad. We are so used to not having a war, or not knowing about war, that we have forgotten how extremely blessed we are as a nation. We have become spoiled. Many nations in the world are at war, and so many more have higher unemployment and homeless rates. We are truly blessed. Don’t forget that.

Those round out my top three issues. I’m sure there are many others that could find their way into the third point, but my first and second issues are never going to change. Of course, freedom of worship is very important, but lets face it, we as children of the most high God, can worship Him no matter if we are in prison or free as a bird. We have a freedom the world does not understand or know.

God bless you!

Slow start

September 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’ve gotten a slow start to school this year.
We started last Tuesday with Math, and have gradually added in reading and writing.
I need ink for my printer, so I can’t print any books or penmanship pages right now.

Ethan and Elijah are both doing very well with Math U See. I am impressed that they haven’t really wanted to use the blocks as much as I expected.

I still feel a bit out of sorts from last year and my pregnancy that kept me so exhausted. I’ve got to get the kids back into a schedule doing school, lunch, chores then play.

It’s been slow to get started, but we have started!
