Self Training?

October 31, 2008 · 1 Comment

Well, yesterday Levi took himself to the potty. For the first time on his own!
I haven’t pushed him about potty training because he is one of those kids that will resist every attempt I make.

I told Ronnie last night that it looks like Levi is ready for a trip to Nanna’s house for a few days. If I haven’t said it before in this blog, I haven’t potty trained any of my kids. I really just don’t have the patience for it. My mother-in-law has this magical power to potty train children. I don’t know what she does, and I don’t want to know! All I know is, when my child comes home, I don’t have to change diapers anymore.

Case in point: Melody was almost 4 when she finally potty trained. She just would not go for me. I sent her for 3 days to Nanna’s. Miracle! They brought her home in panties! Fabulous.

So. It looks like Levi is just going to train himself. I’m okay with that. We’ll give it a week or two and see if he does it alone or needs the trip to Nanna’s!

Political Stress Mess

October 30, 2008 · 1 Comment

Is anyone experiencing the stress of this historical election?
I had been, until I heard John McCain declare on Sunday that he would indeed win this election, it’s just going to be a long night on Tuesday.
That seemed to cement the deal for me, and I haven’t been stressed since. Something about his calmness as he said it. He is certain.

*sigh*

Associations

October 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

While some of my recent readers have expressed their disgust of Fox News, I would like to point a few associations out.
If Barack Obama were applying to join the CIA, FBI or secret service, he would be unable to.

Why????

Because of his associations.
Here’s the list:
William Ayers-domestic terrorist
Bernadine Dohrn-domestic terrorist
Rashid Khalidi-former PLO member and mouthpiece
Jeremiah Wright-controversial pastor
Hugo Chavez-president of Venezuala…the man who called our president the anti christ

and many others.

This man may not be dangerous, but his associations are. I’m concerned that he’s had to distance himself from so many people that he may have no friends left at all. Poor little Barry.

O Happy Day

October 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today, the weather is fabulous! Cool breeze. High near 70. Wow!

Yesterday, the temps were great too. We went over to Misty’s and the kids played in her backyard. Misty’s sister-in-law, Kelly, came over with her five kids and we had 10 kids playing in the backyard!
It’s amazing that three women can produce so many children. You would think we would lose control, but we always manage to stay on top of things.

Of course, there was last week when Kelly had to remove Matthias from the tree with a ladder. Before she could get to him, he jumped. “I’m okay!” he yelled.

Ahh! Cool autumn days. It doesn’t get any better than this! I love this season!

Political Baffoons

Joe Biden thinks he is above tough questions like these. Can you believe this? Sarah Palin is run through the ringer with tough questions every day, and they just keep coming.
I personally think that Joe has been told by the Obama campaign that the media wont ask tough questions.

Recently released is this radio interview with Barack Obama, where he talks about “Redistribution of Wealth,” that’s a Karl Marx idea!!!

Modern Day Red Hen

October 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Once upon a time, on a farm in Virginia, there was a little red hen who scratched about the barnyard until she uncovered quite a few grains of wheat.

She called all of her Democrat neighbors together and said, ‘If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me plant it?’

‘Not I,’ said the cow.
‘Not I,’ said the duck.
‘Not I,’ said the pig.
‘Not I,’ said the goose.
‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen, and so she did.

The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.

‘Who will help me reap my wheat?’ asked the little red hen.

‘Not I,’ said the duck.
‘Out of my classification,’ said the pig.
‘I’d lose my seniority,’ said the cow.
‘I’d lose my unemployment compensation,’ said the goose.
‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen, and so she did.

At last it came time to bake the bread.

‘Who will help me bake the bread?’ asked the little red hen.

‘That would be overtime for me,’ said the cow.
‘I’d lose my welfare benefits,’ said the duck.
‘I’m a dropout and never learned how,’ said the pig.
‘If I’m to be the only helper, that’s discrimination,’ said the goose.

‘Then I will do it by myself,’ said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see.

They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But the little red hen said, ‘No, I shall eat all five loaves.’

‘Excess profits!’ cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)
‘Capitalist leech!’ screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)
‘I demand equal rights!’ yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)
The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy)

And they all painted ‘Unfair!’ picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen, ‘You must not be so greedy.’

‘But I earned the bread,’ said the little red hen.

‘Exactly,’ said Barack the farmer. ‘That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle.’

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, ‘I am grateful, for now I truly understand.’

But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the ‘party’ and got her bread free.

And all the Democrats smiled. ‘Fairness’ had been established.

Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared…so long as there was free bread that ‘the rich’ were paying for.

A day trip

October 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well, we took a day trip.  Me and the kids and Misty and her kids.  Out to the house we are buying.

As soon as they were out of the van, they were in the backyard exploring.

This is going to be the best decision we’ve made, I think!

Trick or Treat?

October 22, 2008 · 1 Comment

We don’t.

When my oldest two boys were little, we would take them to our local university to gather candy from the freshman girls dorm.

When I was an RA in that very dorm, we had cute, biblical themes for each floor.  Like “fishers of men” and such.  The year we took the boys, the dorm was decorated with super heros, the wizard of oz and such.  Lions and Tigers and Bears.  Oh.  My.

Seems in just a couple of years the “Halloween Bug” had bitten the freshman at our university.  It was dark and a bit scary.  The boys wouldn’t let go of me and Ronnie.

We started attending this great church in Longview, and decided to stop going to these “Halloween Alternative” parties.  Even our church hosted a Harvest Festival.  We went to that, because no one was allowed to dress up, and it was never on Halloween.

Anyway, through my adult life, I have seen the dramatic decline in the fun of Halloween.  When I was a kid, we were never scared.  People didn’t put graves in their front yards or put up scary decorations, at least where we grew up.  The whole idea of a child standing on a door step in costume, begging for candy is just ridiculous to me.  The whole unholiday is demonic, in my point of view.

It is a day to celebrate death and the dead.  We, as Christians, celebrate life.  Why, in heavens name, would we celebrate, what many will agree, is the devil’s holiday?  Why?
